Assistive technology recommendations are only made when the student is not making effective progress with the given accommodations and supports. When appropriate and effective accommodations or low-tech strategies are already in place, assistive technology recommendations are not made.

The goal of any assistive technology consultation/assessment is to determine what is educationally needed for a student to make effective progress as part of FAPE (free appropriate public education). Assistive technology must be considered in conjunction with the student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP) and, when recommended, must support the enumerated IEP goals and objectives.
Assistive technology recommendations are only made when the student is not making effective progress with the given accommodations and supports. When appropriate and effective accommodations or low-tech strategies are already in place, assistive technology recommendations are not made.
Although the use of a dedicated mobile device can be a great tool for students, most students do not need a dedicated device to make progress and to receive FAPE.
The district allows/encourages BYOD (Bring Your Own Device). Students are allowed to be on the NPS network and if a student brings their device to an Instructional Technology Specialist, they will help the students get on the network. All students may use their personal devices, as long as they follow the district-wide Acceptable Use Policy.
